There was a time when more than 80 percent of companies do not drop ship to destinations outside of the United States. This has created few options available for dropship resellers wanting to make a living by selling online. However, the influx of dropship wholesalers from China has changed all that as these companies ship to practically anywhere in the world at drop-down prices for high tech gadgets that were never even heard of before.
More and more suppliers from China are providing good quality products that are at par with many branded versions but are still sold at incredibly low wholesale prices even on small quantities, giving resellers a great opportunity to profit well from their online stores and product listings. With the wide array of products that feature the latest in gadget technologies, you will never run out of hot items to sell online.
Dropshipping and International Holidays
But there is also another wonderful opportunity that resellers can get when sourcing out products from China and this is made apparent during Western holidays like Christmas or Easter. In seasons like this, the demand for high tech gadgets is at its peak but resellers would have a hard time sourcing out suppliers locally as most of these companies too also go on holidays during this period. Chinese dropship suppliers however, are not affected by Western holidays and would continue to deliver products during these periods – right when they needed these items the most.
However, resellers like you will encounter potential problems that are even more dangerous if the situation is turned the other way around and you are faced with a Chinese holiday – and have pending orders waiting delivery. During these Chinese holidays, factories and businesses including your dropship wholesaler will have no work and will not be able to ship and deliver orders made before a certain cut-off period.
This can cause tremendous delays on your product deliveries – resulting in customer complaints and negative feedbacks on your online profile. What’s worse is that this may cause serious repercussions to your DSR or Detailed Seller Rating on eBay. These negative impacts will affect your TRS or Top Rated Seller status, discounts on your eBay fee, your search ranking, and eventually your status on eBay.
With low ratings below 4.3 on your DSR for a 30-day period, you will receive certain sanctions. If you’re ratings continue to drop and fall below 4.1 within this period, your ability to sell would be suspended. If you’re just starting out and still have low sales volume, just a few buyers rating you low would prove disastrous for your eBay business.
Prevent Damage to Your Seller Profile
The major holidays in China are listed below. Note that some dates are not fixed so it would be best to confirm the actual dates from your suppliers.
Holiday Date Duration
New Year January 1 1 day
Chinese New Year 1st Day of 1st Lunar Month (Feb) 12 days
Qingming Festival 5th Solar Term (April) 1 day
Workers’ Day May 1 1 day
Dragon Boat Festival 5th day of 5th lunar month (June) 1 day
Mid-Autumn Festival 15th day of 8th lunar month (Sep) 1 day
National Day October 1 3 to 5 days
Knowing these dates precisely and confirming from your dropship suppliers their cut-off dates before the holidays will help you plan ahead and take the necessary steps to prevent negative feedbacks from your customers from happening in the first place. You can either stock up on your top selling items so you can have inventory to deliver even during the holidays.
You can also provide information and communicate with your buyers regarding the holiday issue so you have no recourse but to add additional shipping days for the items ordered. In this way, you can minimize the possibility of receiving negative feedbacks by properly communicating with the customer and letting them know of the situation upfront.
As with any business good communication is the key to doing business online, particularly for a reseller like you that orders products from dropship wholesalers from China. You cannot control the holidays or the work periods in other countries but you can take steps beforehand and avoid getting negative feedbacks.
